HERE’S WHAT TO BRING...

  • CLEAN jar, vase, bucket or container to transfer your flowers into. This is for you to take your flowers home in. We have water to fill up your jar, so your flowers will stay fresh on the way home. Your bucket/vase/jar should be clean enough to drink out of. Seriously. This is not an exaggeration! Dirty buckets are big no-no.

  • Your own CLEAN clippers. Please wash or disinfect them before you arrive to help prevent the transfer of plant diseases. We do have extras if you forget or can’t find yours!

  • Sunscreen or protective clothing, bug spray and farm appropriate shoes: The U-Pick Flower Garden is an open field, without shade. Please wear appropriate footwear our pathways are mulch, if it’s been rainy rainboots may be a good idea, flip flops and heels not recommended.

  • Don't forget to bring Water to hydrate while enjoying the farm.

  • This is our personal property and we have worked hard so we can share it with others - we want to keep it that way!

  • Please DO NOT allow children out of your sight. Please DO NOT allow children to chase, harass or tease our animals in any way, or purposely destroy the flowers or property. You will be asked to leave.

  • If you are planning on transporting a bucket, we recommend that you buckle your bucket in on the way home!

  • If you have a severe BEE/STINGING INSECT allergy, please consider picking up pre-picked blooms or visiting us at the farmers markets instead of venturing into the fields. We have honeybees and other pollinators on-site and as with any outdoor activity there is always a risk that a threatened insect may bite or sting.

  • Our ducks and cats are free-ranging. We do have horses and cows but are only viewable via your car from the road due to liability.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING:

  • Pets of any kind. If you have a service dog, please alert us ahead of time and plan to clean up after them.

  • Children or adults with severe bee/wasp sting reactions. No one has been stung before (bees are NOT interested in stinging people while they are out foraging) but there is always a chance.

HOW IT WORKS

*We HIGHLY RECOMMEND you check our Facebook page right before your visit. This is where we post the latest up-to-date information. Sometimes we have to cancel due to weather or lack of blooms!

  1. Park in the lot in front of the U-Pick Flower Garden.

  2. Grab a pitcher or bucket. You will carry this out into the garden and put your freshly cut flowers into it. This also helps us “measure” the amount of flowers you cut.

  3. Have fun! There are over 30 types of flowers and foliage to choose from, so be sure to explore every row!

  4. When you’re done, visit our Checkout to pay for your flowers.

  5. Transfer your flowers to your own vase, bucket, etc. to take them home. Our pitchers/buckets are not for sale.

  6. Enjoy your flowers!

How to Pick

Cut all flowers and foliage deep but leaving at least 2 leaves on the plant.  Make the slice at an angle of about 45 degrees. Cutting at an angle provides a larger exposed area for the uptake of water. It also enables the stem to stand on a point, allowing water to be in contact with the cut surface. Remove all the foliage that would be submerged in water. This will lessen the bacterial growth, which shortens the vase life of flowers and makes the water smell foul.  For our tiniest pickers, we find having them pick out and hold the flower while an adult cuts the proper stem length to be the most fun experience for everyone. We’re here to help too, give us a wave or holler from the field if you have any questions.

Zinnia wiggle test- If the neck of the Zinnia flops when you wiggle it then its not ready to be picked. The neck needs to be stiff before picking. This test can be used for many flowers.

Bucket of Blooms

For Reference:

  1.  Dahlias, Lilies, Lisianthus and Sunflowers are sold separately by the stem and are not included in buckets. Or 30 stem max of Dahlias, Lisianthus and Sunflowers included with bucket. You may purchase more than 30 but that is maximum included in the bucket price. Buckets are mixed flowers. Single variety buckets we reserve the right to charge according to stem quantity and price.

  2. We will try our best to accommodate specific color schemes and varieties, but we harvest the freshest blooms available in the field at the time of your event.

  3. While blooms can last up to a week if properly cared for, we recommend picking up your buckets no more than 3 days before your event.

  4. Buckets are only available from July through September.  The exact date varies each year.

  5. One bucket will fill 5-7 quart-sized mason jars.

  6. Optional. There is a $10 per bucket deposit (for the bucket itself if needed) and it’s fully refundable upon return of clean buckets.

  7. Delivery is not included.

  8. Final payment is due at pick up.

  9. The more flexible you are the more enjoyable your experience will be.

  10. Because our flowers are at the mercy of Mother Nature, we cannot guarantee or reserve flowers.

  11. We do recommend that you visit the farm a week in advance to see what is available and those flowers coming into bloom.
